a Review about France holiday

a Review about France holiday

Below the towering peak of Mont Blanc lies Chamonix, famous for skiing and mountaineering alike. Besides its quaint charm and interesting architecture, it has some of the best skiing in Europe, including the world-famous Vallée Blanche run.

Delightfully furnished in traditional French style with wood-panelled corridors this simple but clean hotel offers a friendly welcome and is conveniently located near Chamonix's apres-ski centre. This friendly hotel retains much of the typical French atmosphere found in this part of the Alps and its homely restaurant, decorated in natural wood, provides good, traditional meals.

Besides a comfotable lounge and dining room the hotel boasts one of the most popular apres-ski bars in the town. The bar noted for its exotic cocktails, is often the scene of lively and spontaneous entertainment around the big, open stone fireplace. In the plesant restaurant with its excellent views of the mountains and forests our guests can enjoy deelicious home cooking including two regional specialities such as the "braserade" table barbecue. Bright and airy with large French windows overlooking the slopes, studios are pleasantly decorated with fitted carpets, radio and telephone. All rooms have two twin beds and an additional single divan sofa which sleeps a third person comfortably.

Ritz Paris Club

Ritz Paris Club

Review
Michel Gaubert expertly lines up theme weeks which appeal to the middle-aged clients who like to explore distant gastronomic horizons. Outside of these special evenings, the Ritz Club will treat you like the king or queen you wish you were, all within a comfortable setting. The tables of the spacious room stand ready and waiting for a dinner feast direct from the Ritz kitchens, which goes to say that here, gastronomic culture goes hand-in-hand with music, runway shows, and tastings - for a long and beautiful evening. Like a tiny handful of private clubs, the Ritz Club opens its doors (with moderation) to the most elegant of the elegant few.

Moulin Rouge Club

Moulin Rouge Club

Review
All I can say is: WOW. The show of the Moulin Rouge was amazing! Colors, lights, music, entertainment! Everything was there. Though famous for the topless women, the show is much more than that. There are dancers, comedians, and gymnasts. One act that I thought was particularly amazing: a man and women doing amazing balancing acts of strength. They balanced each other with just a hand, and did tricks I didn't think were possible! A must see in Paris!
Despite the fact that the show is not entirely topless women, the Moulin Rouge is still not child-friendly. Leave the kids at home for this one. I had teenage boys in my tour group, and they giggled a bit...
As a warning, cameras are not allowed inside the Moulin Rouge. They collect them at the door, then give them back to you after your show.
As for the dress code, dress smartly. You don't need to go all out, but look presentable. Ladies could wear a nice dress or a skirt and top. Men could wear a dress shirt and pants.

Banana Café

Banana Café

Review
Taken over by the amiable Thierry Mallet, the Banana Café has dropped the "trendy/trash" style in favour of a formula embracing music genres spanning several decades. Hence there are an increasing number of "theme" evenings, like that of the Cotton Club who, back in the days of the Prohibition, took us right to the heart of the Harlem beat. It also held a great Oriental evening, a spicy party in every sense of the word. The Banana Café is not so much a discotheque as a lively bar with music (and good bar food if you feel the need to nibble), where something new is happening every evening. No wonder the place appeals to every age and every style.

Crazy Horse Paris

Crazy Horse Paris

Review
Today, always, and forever, the dancers with provocative names like Bertha von Paraboum and Rosa Rumetto are woven into the choreography with great precision, along with a visual efficiency that highlights their bodies and movements. Sophie, Didier, and Pascale, the three children of Alain Bernardin (who died in 1994) who now oversee the cabaret, decided to celebrate fifty years of success in the most dignified manner. Last June, the slew of events included the inauguration of a second Crazy Horse in the MGM Grant Hotel in Las Vegas. Twelve of the thirty-two dancers in the troupe made the trip, and now they're dividing their time between France and the United States. And Hilton Mac Connico has designed a new façade and interior for 12 Avenue George V. A new frontier for Crazy Horse, a typical Parisian locale which everyone says they know without ever having been.

Le Nouveau Casino Nightclub

Le Nouveau Casino Nightclub

Review
This trendy café located at the Bastille, open since last year and regularly figuring in our mentions of techno/rock concerts, has rapidly become a meeting place for Parisian club-goers, gathering here for no specific reason other than knowing that the night will be a lively one. The perfectly adequate size of the room means you can dance away in the midst of tables, carried away by the music mixes of resident DJs Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris who, on certain evenings, step aside in favor of explosive live concerts. These generally begin around 8 p.m. and you don't need to reserve (except when it comes to big names). Drinks starting at £11.

Batofar Nightclub

Batofar Nightclub

Review
In its early days, the Guinguette Pirate team had an ambitious project: to create a counterculture sanctuary where music from around the world, literature, informal discussions, and myriad ideas are given free rein. However, the Batofar's unexpected success has turned it into a techno music Mecca. The Saturday night "People Party" (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) reunites the beautiful people, thanks to the talented Fabrice Lamy, Kwality's art director (no other than the organizer of those sensational evenings at the Mezzanine de l'Alcazar) who has, as always, a great team of DJs. It's a happy mix of styles: chic young girls and stylish young men, all wild about sonic performance. True to its name (a play on the French word for "lighthouse"), this floating club attracts a trendy set from far and wide. Even outside, the spectacle is striking: the crowds on the quay, the rust-red Batofar, the Seine gently flowing past historic buildings, the Institut du Monde Arabe, the François Mitterand library. On Sundays, there's an after-party starting at 6 a.m

Stringfellows Nightclub

Stringfellows Nightclub

Review
Located on the premises of the former Niel's, Stringfellows is owned by Peter Stringfellow and business partner Bernard Lévy, a leading figure in Parisian nightlife. It comes across ass a fairly chic, 260-seat bar/restaurant where you can have a drink or dine (starting from 8 p.m.) before requesting a striptease from one of the 40 dancers. And this stimulating spectacle is open to all: on Sunday evenings, alone or in couples, women can enjoy a striptease performance by Wade Childress (a former Chippendales member), aimed at initiating Parisian ladies in American striptease. The overall decor and ambience have been designed by a very talented young woman, Valérie Azria. £15 for bar drinks, £185 for a bottle.

Wagg Nightclub

Wagg Nightclub

Review
The Wagg is a Mecca of Left Bank fashion. The name is an acronym for "Whisky à gogo", a moniker redolent of the sixties when Palais Royal and rue Mazarine both housed discotheques of the same name The club features guest DJs, playing House music of every colour. Doors open at 11 pm for a dance floor that is more intimate than the Queen or La Loco. Punters go to get off on and get down to great music in a Saint-Germain-des-Prés-style basement hideaway setting.

VIP Room Nightclub

VIP Room Nightclub

Review
This is where the "beautiful people" go, the friends of Jean Roch, who knows many, hence some divine encounters, if you are in luck and happen to meet some stunning beauties straight from the TV or cinema screen. That said, the VIP Room is full every evening, and when you get to the room after making your way along a long sort of lit tube, you find yourself instantly in the swim of things; music, bar and clientele - definitely chic - all combine to create a magical atmosphere. Then there's the bouncer at the door: Sometimes he suddenly refuses to let you in for no apparent reason, meaning that it's a toss up, which can add a certain piquant to the evening. Anyway, a club that lets everyone and anyone in just wouldn't be Parisian, would it?

Le Queen Nightclub

Le Queen Nightclub

Review
Five or ten years from now, we'll be talking about Queen with the same nostalgia as when reminiscing over the golden era of the now defunct Palace, in a different style: The place is "trash", 99% gay, rarely wants to let women in, even if they are tolerated. The only problem is that Queen is a hothouse of talent. It's here, for example, that the French DJs have built their reputations that drive London and New York wild with admiration, if not jealousy! The Respect parties are respected through out the world and DJs who have participated in them, even briefly, are quickly snapped up. Charles Schilling, Dimitri from Paris, Dan Ghenacia, Ivan Smagghe, Lucy Luck, an amazing line up of aliases from which emerges genuine turntable wizardry. It's not unusual to meet up with these stars of scratchin' in Amsterdam, London and New York, when they're not hired out at private parties for astronomical sums.

Restaurant Market

Market

Overview
The first Parisian venture of the world renowned Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Market is centrally located and was designed by the minimalist interior designer Christian Liaigre. He prefers to use basic materials such as wood and stone giving the venue an earthy feel. Huge bay windows open out into an interior courtyard, and ethnic masks and other objects from Africa and Polynesia decorate the interior. There is a raw bar in the restaurant serving oysters, fish carpaccios and other uncooked delicacies. The banquettes in beige leather surround beautifully laid tables. The terrace is delightful for both lunch and dinner and VIPs are attracted by the chef's table hidden near the kitchens. The young chef Wim Van Gorp has already spent several years training with Jean-Georges in New York and is now at the height of his career. The food is a fusion of French, Italian and Asian producing mouth-watering and beautifully presented dishes.

Review
The creative force here is Alsatian Jean-Georges Vongerichten, whose restaurants in New York, Hong Kong, London, and Las Vegas are classified by local critics as both megahip and top tier. The Paris gemstone in the Vongerichten empire holds 130 diners in a richly paneled postmodern decor, designed by decorating mogul Christian Liaigre, dotted with carved masks from Oceania (Polynesia) and Borneo and with art objects on loan from the Paris branch of Christie's auction house. Menu items include a pizza with black truffles and Fontina cheese; foie gras with a purée of quince, corn pancakes, and wild cranberries; or crabmeat salad with mango. Main courses might feature daurade (bream or porgy) baked in a salt crust; a faux-filet with exotic mushrooms; or a "black plate" for two diners, loaded high with shellfish and their garnishes. There's a wine list that most oenophiles consider extremely interesting.

Restaurant Alcazar

Alcazar

Overview
Serving the best cuisine from both sides of the channel, Alcazar restaurant and bar offers a very traditional French ambience in the famous Saint Germain de Près district near the School of Fine Arts. The glass ceiling fills the lower dining area with natural light and gives a bright and airy feel. The eclectic menu features primarily French cuisine, with produce such as Smoked Salmon or the House Foie Gras, not to mention the original Raspberry and Liquorice Vacherin dessert. A more contemporary atmosphere can be found on the mezzanine floor overlooking the restaurant, where you can sample the extensive cocktail list whilst listening to a diverse selection of house music from some of the best Parisian DJs. Another unique experience can be enjoyed on Monday night, where you can dine with the accompaniment of classical music from Véronique Chevalier and her musicians.

Review
Paris's highest-profile brasserie de luxe is this high-tech place funded by British restaurateur Sir Terence Conran. It features a red-and-white futuristic decor in a street-level dining room and a busy upstairs bar (La Mezzanine de l'Alcazar). The menu includes rack of veal sautéed with wild mushrooms, roasted rack of lamb with thyme, and shellfish and oysters from the waters of Brittany. The wines are as stylish and diverse as you'd expect.

Chez Julien Restaurant

Chez Julien

Overview
Chez Julien is a typically Parisian restaurant in the 4th district of the French capital. This old bakery is a listed building and evokes the style of the 1900s; if you love the romance of Paris then this is the place for you. The menu consists of traditional and reliable French dishes, such as foie gras pâté or scallops cooked in a basil sauce. There is also a substantial choice of fish and meat dishes. Chez Julien also has a wonderful terrace for al fresco dining.

Review
Founded in 1780, this restaurant couldn’t feel more French if the servers sang “Frère Jacques” while serving crème brûlée. But this is no dainty tourist trap. Bought and renovated last year by one of the Costes family, best known for the luxurious Hôtel Costes, the restaurant has exquisite retro-chic décor like plush banquettes and tall mirrors. A stylish crowd of all ages dines on French classics — foie gras, frogs’ legs, rack of lamb and a massive Chateaubriand steak with good crispy fries — but the view is the marquee attraction. From the tree-fringed outdoor seats you can see the Seine, Notre Dame and, just footsteps away, the old St.-Gervais-St.-Protais Church.

Royal Madeleine Restaurant

Royal Madeleine

Overview
The Royal Madelaine was original a turn of the century workers' bistro. In the post war era it moved up in the world to become a restaurant and became highly fashionable among the Parisian elite in the 1960's. The décor remains that of the traditional French bistro with the large zinc bar and velvet covered banquette as well as old engravings on the walls. The only thing that is new here is the food which is French fine dining to modern day standards. You can expect French service at its best at the Royal Madelaine with impeccable waiters and a knowledgeable sommelier.

58 Tour Eiffel Restaurant

58 Tour Eiffel

Overview
58 Tour Eiffel is a restaurant situated on the first level of the Eiffel Tower. This restaurant lead by famous Chef Alain Ducasse offers fine French cuisine in a unique environment. Guests can enjoy freshly prepared dishes high above Paris in an easy-going atmosphere. For dinner, the restaurant is more in a brasserie mood with its soft musical background. Look at the impressive steel and wood staircase leading to the main dining room. The menu features a tasty traditional French cuisine with dishes such as bell onions and girolle mushrooms with their red wine sauce (sauce 'meurette'), boiled egg pan ('oeuf mollet') fried with bacon, baked John Dory ('Saint pierre' fish) with its vegetable tart and herb vinaigrette. As for the dessert, try the excellent rum and light vanilla cream parfait. Combine the best of the worlds in Paris having a fine dinner at a restaurant on the Eiffel Tower.

Review
When I was in Paris for an exhibition recently I took a couple of American customers to this restaurant because it combines a famous landmark with French cuisine. I thought it would be an unforgettable experience for them and I was not disappointed.
It is on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower so at night the views are spectacular especially if you can get a table by the window. It is quite avant garde in the way it is designed with a sort of circular swirling purple light above which sounds strange but it is all done in the best possible taste. The lighting is quite subdued so that people can see the city and there are candles on the tables so the atmosphere is wonderful.
I am not easily impressed in restaurants becuase I do a lot of entertaining all over the world but I thought the food and the service here was excellent. We had the cheaper of the menus (not that any of them are exactly "cheap") but it was just great and as far as I was concerned it was certainly worth it.
You'll skip the queues at the bottom and go straight up to the first floor in a lift. If you are looking to do something in Paris for your partner or customers, you can't beat this.
